My husband and I have a range of restraints that we have been using over the past couple of years however we had never tried using a spreader bar, so we where extremely excited when Lovehoney asked us to test the Bondage Boutique spreader bar in return for a fair and honest review. The product arrived promptly in a discreet brown postage box and was wrapped in a clear plastic bag. My initial response to the product was that it felt very heavy to hold and looked very durable. I must admit that when I looked at the cuffs I was a little concerned because although they where made of leather and had a faux fur lining, they did not look anywhere near as padded as any of the other cuffs we had previously owned but I decided to wait until I tried out the product before passing judgement on it. The product can be used on both wrists and ankles however we found we preferred to use it to spread my legs. It can also be used to attach your lover to furniture, so it is a completely multipurpose item and can be lots of fun if you have a good imagination. The cuffs are probably the most secure cuffs we have ever come across, as they come with padlocks unlike many products that have quick release D-rings and Velcro straps. Thankfulky two sets of keys are provided so that if you misplace a set, a second set of keys is on hand for emergencies. The cuffs also cannot be removed from the bar, so the are not interchangeable like some products. The bar can be adjusted from 18-26 inches. I really liked the fact the bar in adjustable because I found that it depended what position I was in to determine how far I could comfortably spread my legs and maintain that position for prolonged periods of time. The bar is extremely easy to adjust by opening two removable pins. The bar can also be broken down into three smaller pieces which makes is easy to travel with or store away in small spaces. The cuffs themselves can be adjusted to securely fit between 7.5-12 inches. I personally do not have the the biggest ankles in the world. Many people have remarked on how slim my legs are and I found there was only two loops left after I secured the cuffs, So I would be a little concerned that the cuffs may be a little small for anyone with a chunkier or more muscular ankle. My concern about the minimal lining on the cuffs was proven to be correct if I wiggled about and put up a fight. I found the edges of the leather rubbed on the top of my foot and back of my ankle. If I behaved like a good submissive should do , then there was no issue. I wasn’t left with any marks on my skin so the rubbing was only minor. We loved the spreader bar. Not being able to move my legs meant my husband had full control to pleasure me As he wished and I found that I had multiple orgasms each time we used the bar as there was no way to escape my husbands touch. He was extremely turned on at the idea of me being at his mercy and having no way of escaping. We teamed the spreader bar with over the door hanging cuffs and found it was the perfect combo for a good spanking session and sex from behind. This was a valentine’s treat in 2014 so we’ve had it a while now! I had been considering getting a spreader bar for a while and my husband really liked the idea of a lockable one. When I pulled this out on valentine’s day he couldn’t wait to use it; it was lucky that I had arranged a child-free evening. The cuffs are very comfortable and strong and the bar has a great weight to it. It’s adjustable using the 2 pins in the bar but this doesn’t make it any less sturdy- once they’re set they are not going anyway without a very big tug. They have never slipped out accidentally whilst in use. The cuffs are lockable but this brings me to the only complaint I have about this bar and that is the quality of the padlocks. They haven’t broken but they are not the best quality and not in keeping with the rest of the bar; the key can sometimes turn without unlocking the padlock so we have replaced with our own more reliable ones but overall this product is worth the price.

I have been with my better half for over a year now, and initially she was quite vanilla as she would put it. After introducing her slowly to the world of kink, she’s really enjoying all sorts of new found experiences. However, anything bought she would leave for me to choose. I have pushed her a little lately, and she asked me to get some spreaders. I had looked about previously but a lot of them were either fixed length or just didnt look the quality I wanted. As luck would have it, these little puppies were available at a very good price. The quality is very good I find. I like that they are extendable, and I think it’d be quite easy to get a longer bit of tubing for the middle if anyone wanted to make them wider. But for us right now, max width is just right – gives me plenty of access and control, and the OH is nice and comfy. Inside of cuffs are lined, and these are rotatable too, which adds to the comfort and allows a bit of flex. I read some reviews around bruising, that hasn’t been our experience at all. The OH loves wearing them and finds very comfortable. The quality all round is superb, especially the cuffs. The padlocks were a nice touch, and are quite solid too – a little thing that I liked. The only slight disappointment, and for me very minor, are the locking pins. They do not lock in themselves. That in itself can be sorted with a small karibiner, which would help those that have tried to attach wrist restraints to the rings. Although I have that option, I found that putting the pin through the holes on the underside, and then attaching the wrist cuffs worked well enough. If the OH wanted to release them, she could push down and they’d prob come out, but it’s not something I’ll be telling her unless she ever uses the safe word. These have been an excellent addition to our vastly expanding kink-kit, one that both me and the OH hold in high regard.

When I first received the Bondage Boutique Expandable Spreader Bar with Leather Cuffs, there was that familiar mix of anticipation and curiosity. Something that was a surprise (in a good way) was how big and strong are the metal bracket parts on the cuffs. The pictures don’t really do them justice. They are thick metal and won’t bend easily. They are attached by sturdy hinges to the bar. And they go a lot further round the ankle (or wrist or whatever) than I expected. That makes them much more effective at restraining movement than any other spreader bar I have seen. There really is very little movement possible other than what you can twist your ankle inside the cuff. Despite them being so rigid, these are comfortable too, and I have worn them for several hours at a time without discomfort. And they do go wide enough as the cuffs are held rigidly outside the ends of the bar, so they are quite a stretch at their widest, and I’m 1m78cm tall.
