So this two pack of soft bondage rope arrived for us to test. Whilst we are fans of bdsm play we have limited experience of rope bondage so this was a great way of exploring.
A bit of time on YouTube discovering different ties and we were good to go.
These ropes come one in back and one in red but otherwise they are identical. The ends have some frayed bits but are well secured so I didn’t worry that the frayed ends would get loose.
The ropes are both 10 metres long, plenty enough to explore all manner of positions. This is both a good and bad point for us.
Good is that you have loads of rope to play with. The bad is that both ropes are the same length. It takes a lot of tying to use it all. We thought that it would be better if one of the ropes was pre-cut into shorter lengths as this would give you a variety of rope lengths to use. This would allow some more flexibility in your bondage play.
The rope itself was soft and felt almost like the same material as shoelaces are made of but a bit thicker.
In use they didn’t leave much of a mark afterwards and didn’t slip when secured in place. Obviously if restrained tightly (always keep a set of tough scissors to hand in case of emergency) you can get some reddening when the rope touches flesh but this was not too much of an issue with this rope.
All told if it came in a selection of lengths rather than 2 x 10m that would have been better. In the end we cut one if the ropes into 4 x 2.5m sections which gave us much more scope for fun.

I had agreed to review this and was pleasantly surprised. This arrived in the usual Lovehoney style plain packaging and when I opened the box I was surprised with this being a double back of one black and one red rope. I had thought I was only getting one rope so already a bonus for me.
I am starting out in learning Shibari or more specifically for me the knot tying and patterns. So this pack with two colours is a perfect set for me to begin with.
The ropes are soft and don’t have a rough feel so not likely to irritate the skin. I also noticed there is a slight stretch in them so I would suggest making sure you have a good pair of cutting scissors/shears available. With the pack of black and red it gives a good colour contrast for beginners or experienced users. I would certainly look to buy this rope in different colours.

We’ve bought these particular ropes before, and in fact this Bondage Boutique rope was our first bondage buy. But after trying other ropes out, these are still the stand out favourites of our growing collection.
Happily this black/red bundle fits in really well with our predominantly black and/or red restraints collection to date.
A twin pack is handy for two-tone ties, and for pairings with Mrs K’s many black & red accessories and lingerie.
We left ours full length for more complex ties. This rope does cut easily though, and can be dressed at the end with cloth tape or cotton thread (more fiddly but looks great).
The cotton braided outer is soft and comfortable for Mrs K, and handles beautifully and evenly for me when tying her up… and down!
They’re around 8-10mm thickness (slightly oval) with a braided outer, just wide enough to be comfortable, but narrow enough to make knots relatively compact and comfortable when pressed into the body.
Comfort and a nice sensual feel is a big priority for our needs.
They’re soft and very pliable straight out of the packaging so they’re easy to tie with and skin friendly, which helps keep things comfortable and fun for this rigger.
Our other ropes which are the twisted 3-ply type, have different qualities that we’ve had some fun with, but they’ve been more liable to leave marks and cause discomfort or early fatigue, in our experience- especially when they were new. This harder feel adds a more sadist/masochist dynamic to the restraint, which isn’t usually our thing.
The industrial look is also not something we go for as we tend to do most bondage ties on a bed with lingerie rather than in a dungeon setting.
The hemp ropes also needed a bit of wearing in, and treatment (oiling), so they’re quite a bit more involved, needing an investment of time and care.
The lay of twisted ropes also have an impact on how the knots tie, and look. We much prefer the smoother braided surface on these Bondage Boutique ropes, which makes ties much neater looking in our view.
We’ve also previously played with a synthetic rope with this braided outer construction, but we found it’s way harder on the skin, with more risk of friction burns and a harder feeling to knots. For the sensualist and comfort loving rope bunny, we both feel cotton works best.
We’ve both tended to come back full circle to this rope’s easy look and feel again and again. They were great for us as beginners, and for kinky bedroom fun they definitely deliver.
If it ain’t broke…
